Why do Christians wear torture devices around their necks?

You're right, the cross is a torture device. However, it is appropriate because it reminds Christians of just how much God was willing to sacrifice for His creation. For those that believe, the magnitude is pretty staggering. How many of us would be willing to sacrifice our child to a fallen humanity? Probably none.
