How long should a personal statement be when applying for a job?

I am applying for a job as a college lecturer but don't know how long the personal / supporting statement that is required with the application should be. I have almost finished it and its almost an A4 side, however my husdand says its to long and it should be no more then a10 lines. Please help as I really don't want to mess the application up.
